Chapter Thirty-Two
Damon
I heard Lizzieâs door open, and a wave of her sugary sweet scent swirled around me. I stood straight, holding up a single rose. âHey, LizBelle.â
âYouâre here,â she said after a few seconds of silence.
âWe had a date, right?â
âYeah. I thought I was picking you up.â
âSurprise.â I couldnât help but smile.
Iâd made it here from the curb on my own. Even navigated the revolving doors. Jeff will die from shock when I tell him at tomorrowâs appointment. Heâd worked me over so good today itâd taken a two-hour nap to recover.
Hated feeling like a wuss.
âYou smell good,â I said, lifting the flower higher.
âSo do you.â The flower left my fingers, and she took a deep breath. âLove carnations.â
âWhat? Iââ
âGotcha,â she teased.
I stepped forward. âYouâre gonna pay for that.â
She giggled. âOkay. Here I come.â Her voice was closer, so I stepped back, remembering it was three steps to the back wall, and it was a wall of windows. Sure would be cool to see the setting sun. Always liked that. âWhat are we doing tonight?â
âFirst, come here.â I reached out for her. âI wanna practice something.â
She let out a breath, and her minty scent slid over me like a wave.
âAiming for the face.â I lifted my hand.
She took it and guided me to her cheek. Making a mental note how high I had to lift my hand to reach her cheek, I let my fingers glide over the satin surface. Super smooth and soft. Warm, too.
I traced the slight curve of her cheekbone and realized it was pronounced. She must have high cheekbones. âLight skin? Dark?â
âPale,â she whispered. âDonât get much sun.â
Continuing on my journey, I slid my fingers up her temple and over her eyebrows. Thin and narrow. To the nose next, and I followed the skin to the tip. Button nose. Oh hell yeah, she was a Betty for sure. I knew Scott wouldnât have called her that if she wasnât.
I trailed over the tip of her nose to her lips. I knew those pretty well, but touching them like this was different. They were full and soft. A little sticky. âYouâre wearing lipstick.â
âWas,â she whispered and gave a little chuckle. âMight be on your fingers now.â
âDidnât mean to mess anything up but, since I haveâ¦â I stepped closer, keeping my fingers on her lips, and hoped to high hell I was on target for her mouth.
Her fingers brushed along my cheek, giving me a slight nudge to my left, and I fully committed to the motion and met her mouth.
Not bad for the first attempt. And she didnât have to move me much. Hell yeah, I was getting good at this.
Her fingers curled around my neck, and I stepped in to her. And it was like stepping home. Everything about her drew me in. Her scent. Her taste. Her voice. Everything. She was exactly everything I needed as motivation to kick free of Walkerâs gang. Get my shit together. She didnât need a thug in her life.
And I was ready to not be one.
